Hi

Personally all for it, but suspect it will be used as an excuse to lower speed limits at the same time.

All the best

Mind you, if we were lucky they might make the NSL 120kph (73mph).

"do you know what speed you were doing sir"

"120 officer"

"yes sir but that was mph, the limit is in kmh"

"oh sorry must have read the speedo wrong"

"course you did sir, here are your points"

Another one in favour of it. They should kick it off by raising the Motorway speed limit to 130 or 140kph, then convert the speed limits on other roads to kph over a period of years.

However, the politicians will never agree to raising a speed limit Rolling Eyes

So I suppose were all going to have to get our speedo's converted to read in kilometers then? (Except the people who have bought imports)

Nah, plenty of official imports have sneaked in with kmh speedos. And you have a kmh scale on the mph speedo (legally required).

All the best

A load of Bo**ocks! I still using feet and inches! I should think that if the signs in London were replaced with signs both Imperial and Metric for the games and then slowly spread it around the country, but to totally re-do the whole country in metric Middle Finger what about classic stuff that don't have kph? Will the government manufacture replacement speedo's for all classic and vintage cars and bikes? DON'T THINK SO! Another case of trying to strip this country of our identity and turn us into another drone of the EU.

Can't see the point tbh. For the sake of it being slightly easier to calculate fuel consumption it's a lot of outlay.

If they could sneak in a rise in the speed limits at the same time it'd be more interesting.

I don't like the idea of 'finely tuned' speed limits though. I found it very refreshing coming back to Wales after living near London for a year in that I wasn't having to constantly watch out for changes in speed limit all the time. More 'finely-tuned' kph limits would just make it worse.

I hope they don't do it. Why do they have to?! It's stupid.

I learnt in pounds and ounces and miles at school, I can't change now! Laughing

An alternative is to just start making all the new signs in both. Doesn't cost any extra that way.
They've been doing it for decades with height and width restrictions.

Imperial is a right arseache. E.g. What's a tenth of a mile in yards?

Metric is more logical and all kids are taught it today so one day it will all have to change anyway. Smile

LOL, people complaining about losing "national identity" if we switch to km.

The only "national identity" we seem to have is complaining about any changes to anything.

So going by the responses above, chaning to km's will make our "national identity" swell and be loud, well at least for a few months, when they realise it was all a fuss over nothing.

just because the metric society want it doesnt mean we will do it

it wd cost a fortune on road signs alone and the only benefit i can think of is that european tourists and lorry drivers will find it easier to understand speed limits
